BLAISE CASTLE ESTATE, BRISTOL

Restoration, repairs and conservation to estate grounds

Blaise Castle Estate was aqcuired in 1789 by JS Harford a Quaker banker and he swiftly acquired important architects and designers to help him fulfill his ideal rural retreat. The buildings were started by William Patey who was soon joined by John Nash, while the grounds were designed by Humphrey Repton followed by Thomas Farr.

With the help of Lottery funded money Bristol City council have undertook several years of work going on in the grounds. Nimbus undertook Phase I in 2004 which included rebuilding to retaining walls, stabilisation of bridges and ponds. While Phase II carried out in 2006 has included repointing and rebuilding of stone and brick boundary walls, renovations of estate buildings such as the dairy and castle folly, and reinstating the balustrading around the main house along with casts of decorative urns and statuary.
