St. James the Less - Guernsey
Complete restoration of exterior of island church
St. James the Less looks out over the harbour of
St. Peter Port, Guernsey. Built in 1815 from Guernsey Granite, its
classical façade was constructed in Portland stone and a Roman
cement render.
As well as the conservation and decoration of the
external façade, Nimbus oversaw the restoration of all the stained
glass, the replacement of all the timber windows and louvres, and the
conservation, gilding and repair of architectural ironwork.
External and Internal mouldings were rendered in
lime and plaster, and replacement balustrades cast. The Portland stone
was conserved using mortar repairs and small sections of replacement
stone.
The render was conserved and replaced using hydraulic
lime render and grout and was then painted with Keim Restauro Laseur,
a paint that allowed the colour and texture of the render to show through.
Works to the remainder of the building included
repointing of granite walling, paving and landscaping using Portland
stone, planting, lighting works, isolated roofing and leadworks, and
the decoration of railings and Architectural joinery.
